Molecular Target
Epithalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) binds the pineal-region peptidergic complex and modulates the expression of the telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene.
Signal Transduction
Upregulated hTERT transcription drives increased telomerase catalytic activity, which extends telomeric TTAGGG repeats at chromosome ends during replication.
Cellular Effect
Extended telomere length correlates with restored replicative capacity of somatic cell lines and delayed onset of replicative senescence markers in vitro.
Research Applications
Used in longevity and cellular-aging research designs including replicative-lifespan assays, senescence-associated β-galactosidase studies, and telomere-length quantification.
